Getting best home interior ideas from AI

Picasso platform helping the users to paint perfectly

Boosting customer confidence using Gen AI

We all know that when it comes to home decor, painting projects are rarely straightforward. The process gets even more complicated when it comes to DIY painting projects which involves selecting the ideal color and visualizing how it will look under different natural lighting conditions, making DIY painting surprisingly complex. However, what if there were a solution to enhance homeowners' confidence in their choices by utilizing digital technologies that allow individuals to "try before they buy"?

This is exactly what our client, a leading Indian multinational paint company, has accomplished by implementing generative AI (gen AI) to deliver expert guidance for customers undertaking painting projects. The platform, named Picasso, effectively saves time, effort, and resources. Customers can easily describe their project, and the platform will recommend appropriate paint colors, quantities, and additional resources.

Users can visit their website to create a user profile and log in to picasso. The platform's advanced gen AI will engage users in a dialogue, asking targeted questions about their painting project and color preferences. Based on this interaction, picasso will suggest a variety of color options, provide expert advice and tutorials, and share insights into current color trends along with images of similar projects to assist in visualizing the desired outcome.

Additionally, picasso is seamlessly integrated with the client’s existing e-commerce systems, allowing customers to effortlessly add recommended products to their wishlist or shopping cart. The platform also retains project details within user profiles, facilitating easy access for future reference. This feature is particularly beneficial for repainting tasks, as users can quickly retrieve the exact colors previously used from their profiles.

Bringing responsible practices to AI adoption

Picasso was developed using the Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, harnessing the natural language processing and contextual understanding capabilities of large language models. Collaborating closely with the client’s business and technology teams, we trained our AI models using proprietary content and documents, including paint can labels. This training ensures that Picasso can offer relevant product suggestions for items available in-store or on the client’s website.

The platform’s voice, guidance messages, and visual elements—including style images and color examples—were crafted by a talented team of copywriters and graphic designers, resulting in an intuitive user interface.

We also adopted a responsible AI framework, implementing safeguards to restrict the platform’s responses to painting and home improvement topics exclusively. Additionally, we ensured compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Picasso’s impressive 16-week journey

Together, we are coloring a brigther future

As part of the development of Picasso, new roles were established along with monitoring processes, and organizational structures, alongside procedures for ongoing maintenance and improvement. While Picasso is currently available as an online tool, our client plans to offer self-service access in-store, and the retailer's store designers have already begun to create this experience. Furthermore, a dedicated version of Picasso is being developed for vendors to enhance their support for clients.

An employee version is also in progress, with plans to expand the platform to encompass additional home improvement categories and products in the future, such as bathroom and gardening solutions. This initiative is part of our client’s commitment to positioning Picasso as a trusted advisor for expert guidance on DIY projects.

Picasso aligns with its strategic goal of repositioning the brand as the DIY leader in home improvement for Indian consumers. Ultimately, it is enhancing brand awareness and fostering customer loyalty. Additionally, Picasso has demonstrated the potential of generative AI to improve the customer experience and offer valuable insights during complex decision-making processes.
